  3.     Logger 2.0 is a cdev file (Shareware, see below) that when it is inside your System Folder will install some code that allows you to see what
  4. is being done with your Macintosh. To install Logger simply put into
  5. your System Folder and Restart your computer. To remove simply take
  6. it out of your System Folder and Restart the Mac.

  8.     Logger is a cdev (Control Panel file). To configure Logger, select the
  9. Control Panel desk accessory and then click on the Logger icon. Logger will
  10. create a file called “Log File” (if it doesn’t exist) in your System Folder.
  11. The options you can select in the Control Panel is to make an entry in the
  12. Log File when :

  14.     Files are Created,
  15.     Files are Deleted,
  16.     Files or drivers are Opened,
  17.     Files or drivers are Closed,
  18.     Files are Renamed,
  19.     Applications are Launched,
  20.     Resource files are opened,
  21.     The computer is turned off.

  23. The entries in the Log File look something like this :

  29. You can also select if you want a tab or a space to separate the fields of
  30. the entries. Configuration changes you make take effect next time your
  31. computer is restarted.

  33. Log File is a standard TEXT file that can be read with any word processor
  34. or spreadsheet. Each entry is divided in three fields, what, date, and time.
  35. A carriage return is always at the end of each record.

  37.     Sometimes I take my Mac to my work and leave it there for a few days
  38. or weeks because I need it there. The problem is that some people uses my
  39. Mac while I am not there, so I wanted to know what they do with 
  40. my Mac. A few people wrote me letters stating that they use Logger for
  41. tax purposes. I hope you’ll find some use to Logger.

  43. Version, 1.02 fixed a bug that caused a bomb with ResEdit and
  44. incorporated the Shutdown entry in the Log File.

  46. Version 2.0 is now fully configurable cdev and adds many other
  47. functions as described before in this document.

  57. Note : Due to the constant changes in the system software, the launch
  58. code is not called under MultiFinder unless you transfer from one
  59. Application to another or use a utility such as Quickeys from CE
  60. Software. The inconvenience is that no entry is made in the Log File if
  61. you double click an application under the Finder while using MultiFinder.
  62. Apple notified me that at the moment there is no workaround to this problem.

  64. Logger can be distributed electronically in Bulletin Board Systems as long
  65. as this document is also given with Logger.
